Direct Access Scheme (DAS)

Direct Access (DAS) allows riders aged 21 years old or over to take their test on a large motorcycle, allowing them to ride any bike with no restrictions.

You must complete CBT, a motorcycle theory test and finally take both Module 1 and Module 2 of the practical test on a 500cc motorcycle.

Our Direct Access (DAS) course will prepare you to pass the full test and then be able to ride any size motorcycle. The training courses are flexible and run 7 days a week. You can run your DAS over weekends to fit it around work or choose to train with us during the week.

Our Direct Access lessons are designed around you. Most of our customers can expect to pass their tests after 3 or 4 days training. Some take a little longer, others a little less. The amount of training required therefore determines the cost of the course, both you and your instructor will know when you are ready for your test, thus ensuring you won’t be paying for more lessons than you need to.

Our approach to achieving a higher than average pass rate for your test is simple..... We train you to be able to control the bike confidently and effectively both on and off the road thus delivering ALL of the skills you need to pass both Module 1 and Module 2 prior to taking Module 1. By combining the training for both elements of the test, we firmly believe that the approach consistently produces better, safer and more confident riders.

A lot of press coverage has been focussed on certain elements of the new Module 1 Test, and schools inability to replicate the test environment successfully but at Cheshire Biker Training, the Module 1 Test Centre is located at our CBT site in Macclesfield allowing us to train you at the Test Centre in exactly the same environment as on your test! This is a pretty unique offering compared to all the other motorcycle schools in the North West.

A typical Direct Access course will cover the following:

An introduction to the larger and more powerful 500cc motorbikes. We conduct this in a safe off road environment before transferring to normal roads.

On road, you will become proficient in pulling away into traffic, U-turns, roundabouts, junctions, road positioning, hazard awareness, observation, emergency stop, dual carriageways, overtaking safely, making progress, hill starts and gradients and counter steering.
As your course develops we will be polishing up on all your new skills and adding more detail to your ride. Our intention is to properly prepare you to ride your motorcycle after test day – not just concentrating on a minimum standard pass (a practice adapted by some training schools). Riding well is achieved by practice, together with confidence, forward planning, anticipation and good observation. Our course will give you all this and more!

Towards the end of your few days with us, we will concentrate on giving you on and off road practice of the required manoeuvres of the Module 1 Test.

These will include looking at pushing the bike both forward and backward, slalom and figure of eight, swerve avoidance and controlled stopping, the U-turn, slow riding and the emergency stop.
You will be accompanied to the local test centre for your Module 1 Test as part of your training.
Once you have passed your Module 1, you’ll have a final half day’s training and your Module 2 test.

ACCELERATED ACCESS SCHEME

Riders who reach the age of 21, while still within the 2-year period where they are restricted to maximum 25kw machines, but who wish to ride larger bikes need to pass a further test on a motorcycle of at least 35kw.

They may practise on bikes over 25kw under the same practise conditions for Direct Access riders.
You will revert to learner status while practicing (on a motorcycle greater than 25kw) although test failure will not affect your existing licence.
